ACE FORMATIONS
Common name for formations with one back in the backfield behind the quarterback. Quarterback is under center.
BUNCH FORMATIONS
Any formation that features a 3-man alignment of wide receivers like you see above.
DOUBLE WING FORMATIONS
This formation consist of 2 tight ends, 2 wings and a back in the backfield.
EMPTY FORMATIONS
Any formation with no backs in the backfield.
FLEXBONE FORMATIONS
This formation typically features one of the running backs to either side and a back directly behind the QB.
I FORMATIONS
The running backs in the backfield are lined up behind the quarterback to look like the letter "I".
PISTOL FORMATIONS
There is one back in the backfield behind the quarterback. Quarterback is under center.
POWER I FORMATIONS
The running backs in the backfield are lined up behind the quarterback to look like the letter "I" but with an added back to the side of the I.
QUADS FORMATIONS
This type of formation is called quads because it gets four eligible receivers over to the same side of the field.
SHOTGUN FORMATIONS
Any formation that the QB is 4-5 yards behind the center.
SINGLE WING FORMATIONS
Just like the double wing formation has two "wings" as part of the formation, the single wing formation has just one "wing".
T FORMATIONS
This formation has 3 backs in the backfield in a horizontal line.
TRIPS FORMATIONS
This formation has 3 receivers on the same side of the field, while there is one receiver on the opposite side.
TWINS FORMATIONS
The Twins Formation is a term used to describe a formation where two receivers are lined up on one side of the formation, and there is only a tight end lined up to the other side.
WILDCARD FORMATIONS
The traditional Wildcat formation features an unbalanced line and a player other than the quarterback taking the snap.
WISHBONE FORMATIONS
In these formations the 3 backs and the QB resemble the shape of a wishbone.
